Compassionate counselling and psychotherapy in Surrey

Dragonfly Psychotherapy
I'm Vicky and my counselling and psychotherapy practice is based in Guildford, Surrey and West Horsley, Surrey (as well as online).
I work with adults as well as children and young people aged 11 and over.
I am called Dragonfly Psychotherapy for a reason: The dragonfly symbolises adaptability, change, transformation, and self-realisation, embodying the journey of growth and adaptability. As the dragonfly reminds us, living in the present and embracing change can open the door to meaningful personal growth.
My Work
I’m an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, and will guide you through life’s challenges with empathy, compassion and a holistic, tailored approach to our work.
My work centres on providing a safe and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences to lean towards personal growth and healing.
Background
Before embarking on my journey as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I spent 20 years working as a doctor in the NHS, predominantly as a general practitioner. This rich background gives me a broad and deep understanding of both the emotional and physical aspects of health, allowing me to bring a truly integrative perspective to my practice.
I am passionate about working with people who are facing the challenges associated with life taking an unexpected transition - such as burn out, a chronic physical or mental health issue (including arthritis, diabetes, cancer, neurological illnesses, depression, anxiety) and working on the impact these have on your mental health and way of living. I also work with those who have a loved one living with difficulties. My medical background, knowledge and experience as well as my therapeutic training, blend together to aid my work with you.
Qualifications
I hold a Masters degree (Merit) in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from Roehampton University, and I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) (member number 402603).
I work with individuals facing a wide range of issues, and I continue to be passionate about helping people navigate life’s complexities with compassion and care.
First Steps
It can feel very difficult to reach out and make initial contact with a therapist, and I wholly understand this and try to make the process as straightforward as possible.
When you first make contact with me, we can arrange a no charge 15 minute telephone call so that we can talk through the difficulties you are experiencing and whether there is something you are hoping to achieve through therapy. It’s okay if there isn’t something specific, sometimes it feels too complicated to untangle everything at first. We can talk through how we might be able to work together.
Our Sessions
If you decide that you would like to work together with me on your difficulties, we will arrange an initial assessment appointment. This and subsequent sessions are 50 minutes in length.
In the initial assessment, I am seeking to get a much more in depth understanding of your difficulties, in order for us to be able to make a plan for working jointly towards your goals.
Our sessions would be collaborative, and tailored to your specific aims - whether you're looking for immediate relief from stress, seeking to understand and repair from past experiences, or working towards long-term personal growth.
Types of Therapy
As an integrative therapist, I blend a variety of therapeutic counselling and psychotherapy approaches, including person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based techniques. This blend will depend on any specific issues or goals that we have identified for you and may well adjust over the course of our work. My medical background allows me to understand the mind-body connection in a unique way, helping clients to not only explore their emotional wellbeing but also recognise how physical health can influence mental and emotional states.
Tailored to You
By tailoring the therapy to your specific needs, we can work together to explore your personal difficulties - whether it’s navigating anxiety or depression, managing stress, or working through deeper emotional wounds. My aim is to provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can feel safe to explore and grow.
