Dragonfly Psychotherapy
I'm Vicky and my practice is called Dragonfly Psychotherapy, and for a reason: The dragonfly symbolises change, transformation, and self-realisation, embodying the journey of growth and adaptability. Its swift movements and ability to shift direction encourage embracing flexibility and new perspectives,. This imagery inspires exploration of your feelings, clarity in your path, and recognition of the beauty in transformation and renewal. As the dragonfly reminds us, living in the present and embracing change can open the door to profound personal growth.
My Work
I’m an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, dedicated to guiding you through life’s challenges with empathy, compassion and a holistic, tailored approach to therapy.
My work centres on providing a safe and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences to foster personal growth and healing.
Background
Before embarking on my journey as a psychotherapist, I spent 20 years working as a doctor in the NHS, predominantly as a general practitioner. This rich background gives me a broad and deep understanding of both the emotional and physical aspects of health, allowing me to bring a truly integrative perspective to my practice.
Qualifications
I hold a Masters degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from Roehampton University, and I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) (member number 402603). I have worked with individuals facing a wide range of issues, and I continue to be passionate about helping people navigate life’s complexities with compassion and care.
First Steps
It can feel very difficult to reach out and make initial contact with a therapist, and I wholly understand this and try to make the process as straightforward as possible.
When you first make contact with me, we can arrange a 15 minute telephone call so that we can talk through the difficulties you are experiencing and whether there is something you are hoping to achieve through therapy. It’s okay if there isn’t something specific, sometimes it feels too complicated to untangle everything at first. We can talk through how we might be able to work together.
If you decide that you would like to work together with me on your difficulties, we will arrange an initial assessment appointment. This and subsequent sessions are 50 minutes in length. In the initial assessment, I am seeking to get a much more in depth understanding of your difficulties, in order for us to be able to make a plan for working jointly towards your goals.
Our Sessions
Our sessions are collaborative and tailored to your specific goals - whether you're looking for immediate relief from stress, seeking to understand and repair from past experiences, or working towards long-term personal growth. My background as a doctor means I bring a broad, informed perspective to our work, integrating my knowledge of both physical and mental health to support you holistically.
As an integrative therapist, I blend a variety of therapeutic approaches, including person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based techniques. This blend will depend on any specific issues or goals that we have identified for you and may well adjust over the course of our work. My medical background allows me to understand the mind-body connection in a unique way, helping clients not only explore their emotional wellbeing but also recognise how physical health can influence mental and emotional states.
By tailoring the therapy to your specific needs, we can work together to explore your personal difficulties - whether it’s navigating anxiety, managing stress, or working through deeper emotional wounds. My aim is to provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can feel safe to explore and grow.
A 15 minute conversation by phone or online is free of charge, when we can chat and you can think about whether we would be a good fit to work together.
Thereafter, a face to face, on line or telephone 50 minute session costs £95.
Face to face sessions are held in a lovely bright and airy room at Guildford Therapy Rooms in Guildford. This is next door to a pretty park if you would like to try walk and talk therapy.
Please get in touch with me to discuss availability. I have slots across the week, giving flexibility to when we can work together.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, member number 402603. So you can be reassured that I work to their standards, and within their ethical framework.
